Member of the Board of Directors of Banco de Portugal and non-executive Board member of the Company that manages the pension funds for the Bank’s staff. Having joined the Banco de Portugal in 1985, she has held several positions within this institution: non-executive Board member of VALORA, the banknotes printing company (2023-2024), Head of the Markets Department (2017-2022), Head of the Risk Management Department (2012-17), Managing Director of the Pension Funds Managing Company (2002-2012) and Head of the Deposit Guarantee Fund’s Support Unit. Previously, in the Foreign Department, she was Head of the Reserve Management Division, the Analysis and Forecasting Unit and the Foreign Exchange Unit. Within the Eurosystem, she served on the Market Operations Committee and was a member of the Risk Management Committee and the Working Group on Foreign Reserve Assets, from 2017 until November 2022. From 2011 to 2014, she was a member of the Board of the Portuguese Economists’ Association. Helena holds an Economics Degree from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, two post-graduate degrees in European Studies and Bank Management from the same university, and an MBA from INSEAD.
